I have a Fiona also. She's just turned 2.
My experience has been that yes, some people will call here Fifi. Usually they are under 3 feet tall so I let it slide. I certainly do not encourage adults to do this.
Anyone who is familiar with Shrek will immediately call her Princess Fiona. I'm not so much against it. And not a lot of people make the connection.
She will begin to call herself Fona. My Fiona responds also to Baby, but I'm pretty sure that's my fault.
