Baby Boy, Brother to Magnus Joseph

(I have a number of questions in my inbox I'm not going to get to in time, so I'll post them for anyone who would like to work on them.)

We're expecting our second little boy in January. Our last name is two syllables and starts with D and ends with a short "a" sound. Our son is Magnus Joseph. Magnus was originally kind of a joke between my husband and me but ended up becoming his name... and we love it! It's a good strong Scandinavian boy name, and we'd like to give the second boy a strong name as well. So far we are mostly decided on Gunnar for the first name but cannot decide upon a middle name. A biblical/traditional/old fashioned middle name that sounds good with Gunnar, doesn't leave him with weird initials (e.g. G.O.D.), and has a nice rhythm. I like Martin/Martyn and Maxwell and Alexander (though Gunnar Alexander could be a little too much "er"). I like the sound of single syllable names such as James or Jones, but I'm not sure I like either of those enough to use them. My husband is thinking about using Joseph for this baby's middle name, but I'd like to come up with some other options to offer him. We just can't decide on a middle name!

Any middle name suggestions?

What about Johnson or Josiah? Gunnar Johnson. Gunnar Josiah. Josiah might be too close to Magnus' middle name though.

My best friend just named her boy Magnus Ian, I am excited to tell her there is at least one other little Magnus out there.

Congrats on baby boy number 2!

I have sons named Jonathan and Josiah, so I really love love both names. Almost everyone knows at least some of the Biblical story of Jonathan (and David, etc.), but not many know about Josiah who became king as a boy and was a good man and ruler all of his life.

I love Gunnar and Magnus.
are all great biblical names. there are 3 j-names there, perhaps you'd like another j-middle name? Gunnar Jonah. Gunnar James. Gunnar Samuel sounds really nice as well.
Good luck!

What about Gunnar John? I like Martin a great deal from your list as well.

Oh, I wish you liked James more! I love Gunnar James.

I see it's already been mentioned. I was thinking Gunnar Jacob to keep the J middle slot for both boys. I think it's a good solid boy name too.

Oh gosh, I love Gunnar James. Sounds very dashing.

I like the John suggestion. Also, what about Saul or Seth?

I love Gunnar James, too, but if you decide to deviate from a Biblical name, I really like Gunnar Jensen for a very Scandinavian feel!

I like Gunner James. James is a one syllable name that doesn't have a short feel, kwim? I know you weren't looking for first name suggestions, but I'm going to suggest one, just in case you change your mind about Gunner (which I love BTW). As I was reading your letter, I thought a good name that would go with Magnus is Xander. I've always loved this name! Anyway, Happy Baby Naming!
